The term that relates to animals like this is ARBOREAL,  Which means living in the trees.  These animals spend most of their lives in the trees but can visit the ground occasionally.  Examples of this are species of monkeys and insects and fruit-eating bats.  The Flying Foxes of Papua New Guinea, Borneo, Australia, and other tropical regions, never leave the trees, except to fly from one to the other of course.
