What is the name of the area in Arizona or New Mexico that was occupied by Native Americans?

and was a series of homes built into a mountain side? It was featured in the sci fi show X files. I believe it was occupied by the Hopi or Navajo but I don't know exactly where it was or what it was called...thanks...

  1. Are you talking about "Navajo-Hopi Joint Use Area" or it is also know as "The Big Mountain".

  2. Settlements like these are called "Pueblos" in both AZ and NM.  Not sure as to which one your fictional show is refering to, as each usually carries its own tribal name.

  5. You may be thinking of the cliff dwellings, such as Spruce Tree House and Cliff Palace on Mesa Verde, built by the Anasazi.

  6. ~The dudes from Alpha Centauri that helped build them called them "YxzmzyziPankt" in what is now Arizona.  Their failed colony in New Mexico they called "Klnrouipnhgdaugcht".  The 'other' settlement, further north, was called "Sheboygan" and remnants of that settlement are still populated today.
