What is the name of the clock on top of the UK's parliament building?

Question

I know the clock tower is called St Stephens Tower (although apparently this is an unofficial name ... who knew?!) ... and I know that Big Ben is the great bell that sounds the hour ... what I didnt know ... and not 100% convinced ... is that the clock itself has a name .... anyone care to provide a link to prove this ... I can't find one!!

Everyone is wrong about St. Stephens Tower. It isn't even an un official name, the tower which contains Big Ben never has and never will be St Stephen's tower regardless of how many people want it to be that. The tower which houses Big Ben and the clock is simply called The Clock Tower but is known affectionately the world over as Big Ben. St Stephen's Tower is actually the spire in the middle of the Palace of Westminster.

Hang on a minute, how can you cay people will be wrong when the information you provide in your question isn't even right. You claim to know that the tower is St. Stephen's Tower when it blatantly isn't so I sincerely doubt you'd pick the right answer anyway. Incidentally, the clock doesn't have a name.

If it's a name you want, then I did a bit more digging and on the parliament website dealing with the history of the clock tower, it is refered to once as the Great Clock. Not exactly what I'd call a name but it's the closest I think it's ever likely to get.

The chimes from the clock are known as the westminster chimes, so perhaps the clock is known as the westminster clock.

your right about the tower(it is its official name) and bell. but the clock face is just a clock face it don't have a special name.

i sorry it does have a special name, its called a dial the same as all clock faces.

ITs called   St Stevens and the name Big Ben comes from The man who was the first Commisioner, and its the name of the large bell inside the tower. heres the link above.

Big Ben's official name is the 'Great Bell'. There seems to be no name for the actual clock-face.
