  1. go to mta.com and you'll be able to search out the correct train

  2. No commuter train goes from New York Penn Station to Saratoga.

Amtrak does have a train (The Adirondack) that runs between NY Penn and Montreal in Canada, and it does stop at Saratoga Springs.

The commuter trains that leave from NY Penn are the Long Island Railroad (which goes to Long Island) and New Jersey Transit (which goes to New Joisey).

The commuter trains that serve the northern suburbs of NYC would be the Metro North, and they don't go to Penn Station--  They go to Grand Central Terminal.  Metro North commuter trains only go as far north as Poughkeepsie.  Amtrak does not go to Katonah, but Metro North does (on its Harlem Valley line).

    Hope this helps.
