Be sure that you get FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth (DE).  There is another type that is used in swimming pool filters and that won't work.  You can get food grade DE at any farm and feed store.

There is a powder called diatamaceous earth - it is the crushed skeletons of microscopic sea shells.  It is highly effective on fleas, ants, and anything with an exoskeleton.
