i had only just heard of this about 2 months ago when i watched the exorcism of Emily rose. things happened at 3 am in the movie and the priest explains why, i woke up at 3 am for the next week, i think it was just subconscious but still freaky...lol

I've heard it called "Dead Time" (as on Paranormal State), Devil's Hour or the Witching Hour.

I think it's a curious idea. How do spirits, etc., sense that it is 3 am?  Do they determine the earth's rotation relative to the sun? That would presume that the spirit is bound to the surface of the earth and knows its longitude as well as the longitudes of the local time zones.

I suppose the time zones can be ignored if you're talking about local sidereal time, but sidereal time deviates significantly from our normal time clocks throughout one year (one revolution about the sun), so in that case there's no reason to think that 3 o'clock in the morning is better than any other time for paranormal activity.

It all seems rather absurd to me.

Supposed to be the "Anti" hour, Christ was crucified at 3pm - so 3am is the hour when demons mock this. Draw your own conclusions from this.

Some people believe that midnight or the time before and after is the most active for spirits.

its called the trinity hour, the trinity hour(s) to burn candles for deceased loves ones are at 12:00, 3:00, and 9:00, it don't matter if its a.m or p.m., for the paranormal hours where the activity are more prevalent its 3:00 a.m to 6:00 a.m which used to make my husband laugh his @ss of because he would say, "so ghosts have peak hours?" but I guess they do and they are attracted to natural light like candles too.

It is said to be the time paranormal activity peaks. But what I have found from doing investigations is the spirits are not on our time they are on theirs. We have gotten amazing evps at 2 in the afternoon and photographs as well. Its very quiet at 3 am. so we do research for 8 hours+ not just at 3am

Different cultures and beliefs call it different things.  But 3am is not a special time.  Activity happens when it happens.  It is possible to experience residual haunts at that hour, but you can have the same thing happen in the middle of the day.  That is how a residual haunt works.  As for my personal preference, I call it the middle of the night.  If there is activity happening at 3am, I log it as 3am.

The Witching hour - it happens at 3 am (wherever you are in the world) because at 3 am most people are sleeping, the world is less busy and spirits can cross over into our world with little interference.
