  1. That would depend on where the golf course is. For example in the Northeast US you would plant a cool season type grass like bent grass, blue grass or rye grass. These grasses survive well in cooler temperatures. In the Southern US you would plant warm season grasses such as Zoysia, Bermuda or St. Augustine. These grasses cope well with the hot, daily sun the would be typical in warmer climates. These are just a few examples of the hundreds of types of grass available now. Many hybrid grasses have been developed for specific purposes such as high traffic areas or difficult shaded growing areas. Many different types of grasses for many types of applications.

  2. Depends on what part of the country you are playing. Most courses use some type of Bermuda, but St. Augustine and Kentucky Bluegrass is also utilized.

  3. seaside bent

  4. It depends on the climate where the golf course is.  Here in the Midwest US the best is Bentgrass, but it won't hold up to extreme heat so down south they use Bermuda Grass which can take the 100+ heat, but goes dormant when the weather cools off so they have to overseed with Rye grass in the cooler months.  New types of grasses are being developed all the time both for fairways, greens and rough:  Zoi, Poa, Buffalo Grass etc.
