    into thin air????

  3. Reinhold Messner - "All Fourteen 8,000ers"

He was the first to do so.

  4. Reinhold Messner, the world famous climber and mountaineer. The first person to climb all 14 8,000 meters mountains. His book is "All Fourteen Eight-Thousanders".

(I don't think Reinhold Messner climbed all 14 mountains without supplemental oxygen.)

Carlos Carsolio was the fourth and youngest man to climb the world's 14 eight-thousanders (world's highest mountains) including Mt. Everest--all without supplemental oxygen. Carlos' book, "Encuentro con el Himalaya" ("Encountering Himalayas") has received numerous awards including the 1991 "Editorial Value Award".

Alberto Inurrategui, born 3 Nov 1968, is the 10th person to have climbed all 8000ers and the youngest ever. He spent 10 years 7 months and 16 days to achieve this feat. All the peaks was climbed without bottled oxygen. Alberto climbed 12 8000ers with his brother Felix, who died descending GII.

"No Shortcuts to the Top", written with David Roberts, covers Ed Viesturs quest to become the first U.S. climber to reach the top of all fourteen 8,000 meter peaks without oxygen.
