  1. its called a tallit you were it also on shabbot It has special twined and knotted fringes known as tzitzit attached to its four corners. The bible mandates that the tzitzit contain a thread of blue known as tekhelet.(but Jews haven't done this for a long time because the dye for the thread came from a fish that came up from the  ocean every 70 years but Jews lost track of the cycle so we don't know which fish it is) Since the bible itself does not describe how to tie the tzitzit, interpretation of the oral tradition has resulted in a number of methods of tying.

  2. It's a prayer shawl.  In Hebrew, the word is "tallit".  It's worn every Shabbat morning as well.

  3. It's a tallit

  4. Yes, Jews wrap tallitot (plural of tallit) around their shoulders on Yom Kippor but this is because they do this every day. The special thing that is worn on Yom Kippor (and also on Rosh Hashanah) is called a Kittel. It can be made of any material but because it is supposed to be special, many have silk in them.
