  1. Right now (July 18), the most conspicuous bright "star" in the Southern Sky (for nothern hemisphere viewers) is actually the planet Jupiter.

Look at it with binoculars or a small telescope and you'll probably be able to see three or four of Jupiter's moons, called the "Galilean Moons" after Galileo who discovered them 399 years ago.

Your binocular or small scope view is probably better than the one that Galileo had with his primitive telescopes.

  2. It's Jupiter right now.

  3. It is probably Jupiter. Over the past few nights it has been close to the Moon.

  4. jupiter. look at it with a telesscope or binucolars and see teh moons. its really cool.

  5. Most likely it is Venus.

  6. Big Jup.  And check out skyandtelescope.com for a good sky chart.
