Question

Its black and white and has a red headcrest. It`s a really strange bird. I saw it in the south of France, Provence.

The english name is Fan-tailed Warbler (Zitting Cisticola), but in france I believe it is called hoopoe.

Your bird is a Hoopoe (Upupa epops).

It is common throughout Southern Europe and the Mediteranian.

It is quite common in France and Spain,there have been sightings in the South of the U.K. and I believe did breed one year.

you can tell it is a wood p****r by the long beak, its scientific name I cannot recall at the moment.
