What is the name of this bird? I live in NC and its gray with white across the tail.

Question

It looks like a small pigeon with white on the tail feather.

She/He is beautiful and its building a nest in the tree in my backyard.

It's impossible to tell the species by a vague description of "white with a gray tail". My best bet would say you're probably right, it's more than likely just a pigeon. Could be a Junco too. A photo could really do you some good, even if it's not that great, a bird watcher or someone who knows a lot about birds could tell you right off :)

If he also has a white stripe acroos his wings it is a mocking bird

that's another bird I found under Google search. Don't ask me why I use Google. It just happened. Like you said, it's probably a pigeon, so it could be this pigeon.

This is another bird that I found. This one, is a dove, and not a pigeon. It's a possibility that the bird is a dove, and not a pigeon, right?

Could you take a picture? It would be much easier to identify the bird from a picture.
