the term is etiolated.

But its not really that they can't photosynthesize it's that they lack chloroplasts because  they've be deprived of a light signal to tell them to differentiate their proplastids or etioplasts into chloroplasts. once they are exposed to light a healthy non-mutated plant will photosynthesize.
