  1. I would say the Hot dog also..

    then McDonald's

  2. burger and chips extra large

  3. CHEESEBoRGER

  4. djaca70 is right on target, it depends on the area of the country you are from.  In the South, it would be fried chicken and country ham.

When we were stationed in Buffalo, it was beef on weck and buffalo wings.  In TX its huge steaks, out here in CA its In-and-Out burgers or sushi!!  We are such a melting pot that there is no truly American dish.

We are a bunch of mutts who combine all of our nationalities into incredible food no matter where we live!

  5. abuela nany says:

There is nothing more american than turkey...which is the native bird "par excellence", and is roasted for most of the festive or holiday meals...also corn, on the cob or not (including corn chowder)...and cranberries...These were staples in the indian diets before the white men ever set foot in America!

Also "American as Apple Pie" is a good saying, and true, but pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, and pecan pie are also "national" desserts..So are brownies, angel food cake and devils food cake.and Georgia peach pie!

Then there are the regional dishes...such as Boston baked beans, New England clam chowder, southern fried chicken (nothing to do with the famous coronel S.), Southwestern BBQ and Texas chili, Creole Gumbo and Jambalaya, the Pennsylvania Dutch recipes like banana bread and pickled eggs, and many more that I don't have in mind right now..

American cooking is excellent and quite varied...and by the way...the hot dog (frankfurter) and hamburger were imported from Germany...and french fries are originally from Belgium and France, even tho' nowadays when people say "American" those are the first things that come to mind. And the presumably typical american sandwich...was invented by the chef of the Earl of Sandwich...in England! (Although the americans have turned sandwich making into an art!)

And what about: catsup or ketchup???...There is presumably nothing more american than this famous tomato sauce...which in reality was imported from China and Indonesia by the chinese immigrant workers who helped build the railroads in the wild west! (The original name was Ketjiap tho' I'm not quite sure of the spelling)..

Another thing typically american is the candy bar...most, if not all, candy bars were created in the USA during the depression years (such as snickers, baby ruth, mars bars, etc...).

And as far as beverages...Coca Cola and all the other soft drinks that followed. Some are not even known outside of North America (such as Dr. Pepper)!

Look up a good cooking website, there are many...here's one I like...

    www.allrecipes.com

You could spend days just reading the recipes!!!

  6. Old man is correct!

There couldn't be anything more American than turkey.  A bird that originated from here, and is delicious to boot!  Also, anything that's corn based.  And that covers a lot of stuff.  Cranberries and blueberries as well.

  7. Comfort  foods in general.  We basically take ideas from good authentic food, add a bunch of lard, and there you have it!

  8. Burger and chips..? Super-sized..

  9. Well before Mcdonalds was invented we enjoyed homecooked meals so apple pie is associated with being American and i'm pretty sure you could find it at most of our get togethers . Although, we have no real national dish  because there so many people here from different walks of life. If I had to pick one though it would be pizza, because the pizza we have here is different from the kind they serve in Italy, and no matter where you go here you can find a place that serve's pizza.

  10. whatever it is... deep fry it...  and then.. tah dah! american.

  11. would say burger or pie but not sure...maybe it's turkey b/c of the thanksgiving thing...idk

if its helpful we're known for our obesity...

  12. All depends what region of the country you are from.  In Western NY, we like Beef on Weck or Chicken Wings.

  13. We don't really have one. When I think of an 'American' restaraunt, expect to see things like pot roast and meatloaf on the menu with burgers and fries.

There is the saying it is as American as Apple Pie...so, I also equate apple pie in there somewhere.

  14. Big Mac with large fries and a coke.

  15. Cheeseburger & French Fries - what was first thing Iron Man wanted to eat upon returing to the US from Afghanastan?

  16. pizza, hamburger

  17. Cholesterol?

  18. FAT ?

  19. hotdogs or apple pie, take your pick

  20. Apple Pie/Pumpkin Pie, Fried Chicken, Hash Browns, Grits

  21. A double cheeseburger with a large portion of fries and a vast paper beaker of coke on ice! Gourmet food par excellence!

  22. any dish thats fattening

  23. Apple Pie is a nationally recognized American Dish. Look at the following sayings:

    As American as apple pie

    Apple pie and Chevrolet

  24. We don't have one.  Because it is a big country, and because all of our ancestors immigrated from somewhere else, we have a huge blending of cuisines.

But to break it up regionally, here are some popular dishes:

Northeast - Lobster rolls, Clam Chowder

    South - Fried chicken

Southwest - Anything with chile peppers - Enchiladas?

    Pacific Northwest - Grilled salmon

Midwest - "Meat and Potatoes", made with roast beef, meatloaf, etc.

  25. Meat loaf, cheese & macaroni, apple pie, and coke. Not the stuff diets are made from.
