Trust me, Australia does play cricket. Usually better then anyone else. There are ten countries that play cricket at the highest level (ie test cricket) - in addition to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, there is Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

During the summer cricket is probably the most popular sport (in terms of media coverage and public interest), then during the winter it is either rugby league or australian rules football (depending on which part of Australia you live in).

Like other people have said Australians participate in and take an interest in lots of different sports, but if you had to single one out you'd probably have to go with aussie rules (commonly referred to as AFL), cause its uniquely Australian, and is almost a religion in many parts of the country.

I would say none.  Australians will have a go at playing almost any sport but the rate of participation varies across the country.  AFL is big in 4 of the 6 states and cricket is played everywhere but there is no real national sport.  If you look at overall participation it would be Soccer for boys and Netball for girls.  Beer drinking as suggested by some is only big these days amongst teenagers and Kangaroo boxing is an American cartoon version of what Australia is like.

It Is cricket officially though some people are definatly more passionate about there kangaroo boxing.

The favourite game in Queensland and New South Wales is  Rugby League and the favourte game in the other 5  (edit 4 states and northern territory)states is Australian Rules Football. Cricket is loved through out the nation, thus it is our national sport.

By the way we are much better at cricket then India or even the whole sub continent combined
