  1. Well, Rome is a city...but have you heard of the Seven Hills of Rome?

    Rome is quite famous for it's hilly terrain -- it's not quite San Francisco but you will walk up and down a lot all over Rome proper. Here's a link that explains the historical significance of the hills (there are actually more than seven):

    Besides that, there are not exactly forests in Rome although there are a number of nice green spaces. Among the most famous is the Park at the Villa Borghese which houses museums as well as many outdoor activities. Check it out at:

    The city is also bisected by the Tiber river and surrounded in the outskirts by hills and lakes. Both the city and surrounding countryside are very beautiful.


  2. Rome proper is urban.  There are tree lined boulevards, but you have to travel to the outskirts where the hills are abound with small villages, olive orchards, vineyards.
