  1. Simply put, Sociology is the study of societies and Anthropology is the study of humans.

To expand on my simple answer:

Sociology is the systematic and scientific study of society, including patterns of social relationships, social action, and culture. Fields within the discipline concentrate on how and why people are organized in society, either as individuals or as members of associations, groups, and institutions.

Anthropology is the study of humanity. Anthropology has origins in the natural sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences. Anthropology encompasses four sub-fields;simply defined:

    1. Cultural Anthropology (the study of culture)

    2. Linguistic Anthropology (the study of language)

    3. Archeology (the excavation of fossils and artifacts)

    4. Biological/Physical Anthropology (the study of human evolution, genetics and primatology)

Both disciplines overlap, and some smaller colleges actually combine them into one department (although major universities separate them into two different departments).
