It used be called Yathreb at prophet Mohammad times.

Now it's Al madinah Al munawarah meaning the lightened City

Madina is a Holy city of Saudi Arabia . Called Madina Al Manawwara.

There is no any new name it is same .

Medina is a holy place and name for us, the Muslims. why do you think we should change the name?and if one day the government decides to change the name, be sure we won't let them do so!

but as far as I know, there is no decision to change the name!
