  1. I know somebody who's called "Doc" because his first course in college was Medicine--but he shifted course (he's now an Accountant)--but he's still called "Doc."  Incidentally, his older brother is a doctor but relatives don't call him "Doc."  This sometimes has had caused some confusion.  Some years ago, an elderly couple met with Doc thinking he was their high school classmate...only to realize after one full hour that he wasn't the same person that they had in mind.

  2. It's usually short for doctor - - is he a doctor or vet? did he want to be one?  does he look like a doctor (distinguished and serious)?  is he knowledgeable about first aid & medical issues?  does he resemble a famous doctor?

Or, it could be his initials (for "David Owens Carter" or something).

If I were you I'd ask, they may be a great family story behind his nickname.

    :o)

  3. doctor - for amedical professional like a doctor or nurse or medic.

  4. Doctor - it probably refers to his occupation, or his knowledgable or caring nature.

  5. Doctor!!!??? or Document??

  6. it depends on your nationality

for Filipinos he could be called that because he's a doctor or his name is like "Doctimio" or something
