Hello! :)

I am taking a trip to Nuevo Vallarta at the end of April, 2008. I am just curious, to those who have already visited Puerto / Nuevo Vallarta area, or who live there, what is the night sky like? Are there many stars, or is there light pollution?

I come from an area that is 30 mins from New York City...talk about light pollution, the city never sleeps!

Also, does the sun truly set in the water?

(I know I will find this out eventually, but i'm just so darn curious!)

Thank you!

  1. Dark.                (Sorry, couldn't resist it)

Nuevo Vallarta is pretty well developed, but it will be nothing like New York. If you take a stroll along the beach, you should find some spots that are not as well lit and see a lot of stars.

While there, make sure you watch EVERY sun set for the 'Green Flash'. As the sun sets below the horizon (Yes, the water) the last tiny arc (About the last 1 or 2 seconds) will sometimes go green. Sometimes the color of the inside of a lime. On fairly rare occasions (Perhaps 2 or 3 times a month) it will get as dark as the outside of a lime. Pretty great!
