I have recently accepted an offer to study law at aberystwyth and the only thing im worried about is what the nightlife is like. I know its a student town and i have visited it before but not in the day. I really want to have a good time in uni and knowing this would help. Also what about things to do....i went a year and half ago and all i remembered is that i liked it :)

thankyousss

  2. If I were you, I would be more concerned about studying law then thinking if the town was going to show you a good time.  Afterall your furture is more important then having a good time. That shouldn't be a contingent on rather you should move there are not.  There is more to life then having a good time!

  3. It is so good that sometimes it is hard to remember why you are there. In fact (unless things have changed), it used to be a feature of Freshers' weekend to be invited to take a good look at the persons on either side of you because this time next year one of you wouldn't be around any more (one third of students used to be thrown out at the end of the first year!) All students at Aber have a wonderful time and there are flourishing old students' organisations all over the world (more so than with other universities). The social life is built very much around the university and you'll be right there, in the thick of it. Have a great time - and make sure you're not one of the one third!

In response to what Kay says: another thing I remember from Freshers' Weekend was the Principal's speech, in which he told us that having a good social life was as important as studying and that if we were there merely to study, then we might as well have signed up for a correspondence course!

  4. I'll be joining you next year (after my gap year)! I'm assuming it's very good as it was voted as best place to be a student (by www.accommodationforstudents.com) and was short-listed for providing the best student experience in the Times Higher Education Awards. Also, it's something like a population of 13,000 people in Aberystwyth, 8,000 of which are students. So hopefully the night life is good.

There seems to be loads to do too. Lots of activities in uni obviously, plus lots of nice shops and cafes and loads of outdoors-y type things.
