  3. We still call it a tail number or just "the number"

  4. it depends on whether the copter is a registered as a civilian or military helicopter.

Military helicopter numbers are referred to as bureau numbers and is typically a six digit number, such as 153329. In addition, military helicopters have call signs, which typically include a squadron identifier, (ghost rider, scarface, chatterbox, etc.), followed by an aircraft number, (00, 01, etc), when communicating over the radios.

Civilian helicopters are identified the same way as their fix wing counterparts and utilize this same N number, (in the USA), as their call sign when communicating over the airwaves.

  5. The registration number.
