Can some one explain what the number system is in boxing?

Along with each punch and the number it is next to it?

Ive seen old videos of tyson, and he would talk about knowing every number by heart..

  1. Its a system where trainers would use Number to describe each punch instead of saying the name on the punch its self..

    For example

    1.Jab

    2.Straight or cross

    3.Lead-hand hook

    4.Rear-hand uppercut

    5.Lead-hand uppercut

    6.Rear overhand

    Like the ol' 1-2  is a jab  followed by a right

    then 1-2-3 jab, right hand, left hook

    They tend to Vary by Trainers and

    citys like philly, new york ect.

    Some systems even have numbers that go as high as 9 or 11

    But the one i just described is the basic one..

  2. wins-losses-KOs

  3. 1-Jab

    2-Straight Right

    3-Left Hook

    4-Right Hook

    5-Left Uppercut

    6-Right Uppercut

    1-2-3, means jab, straight right, left hook

    The Basic Combinations consist of

    1-1

    1-2-3

    1-2-3-6

    2-3-2

    usually its right hand - left hand - right hand - left hand....... with different punches because when you throw a right cross or a left you are already twisted and your torso is in position to come with the other hand.

  4. W (KO) - L - D

    W = Win

    L = Loss

    D = Draw

    So a stat of 46 (39) - 14 - 3 would mean the boxer had 46 wins, 39 of those wins by way of knockout, 14 losses, and three draws.

    EDIT:Why didn't you say so... p4p already answered... see the answer below

  5. there is no set number system. lots of trainers do this to elp train their boxers as a training tool but there is no one golden punch system that people use.you can make up any that you want. here are some ideas...

    1.jab

    2.jab, cross

    3.jab, cross, hook

    4.jab, cross, hook, upper-cut
