  1. 0.40% is the LD50 for alcohol

  2. Yo mean "LEVEL" dont you???? then look at the answer by bliiy J....TRUE.....400 miligrams per 100 ml of blood is the lethal level, that means that when you reach that level, your systems have already shutted down......honest

  3. There are people who stop breathing at 350 mg/dl, and I've run into a few who'd reliably go into withdrawal at that level but tolerate 550 quite well.

By the way, any time you see the LD50 for humans, look at it with a jaundiced eye. We just can't generate the numbers for a reliable determination even with common drugs like alcohol. The numerical definition is whatever it is when it happens, not any arbitrary number. You're asking for something that simply doesn't exist.

By the way, the primary use in medicine for getting a blood alcohol level is to see who buys the pizza. The clinical importance is zilch.
