  1. A heat burst.  This is a rare event that occurs in association with decaying thunderstorms.  In short, it is caused by rapidly sinking air that warms quickly as it reaches the ground.  The result can be a freakish rise in temperature, often during the night.  Temperature can rise 10-20F or more in just a few minutes, often exceeding 100F.  In two extreme reported cases, one in Texas and on in Portugal, temperatures supposedly rose 30+ degrees to over 130F in a matter of minutes.  If these reports are true, they would actually exceed the hottest official temperature ever recorded on the surface of the earth, which was 136F.

  2. Lightning and thunder during a snowstorm.

  3. There's a name for it. But, dammit, I can't remember what it's called. A few years ago, we were convinced that a tornado came through here. But it was a sudden rain that was "dumped" on us & caused a tornado-like experience.

  4. I dont have pics but working as an observer,  I heard the national wx service wire going crazy.   In Texas, three separate vortices combined to make one massive tornado cloud.  Over a mile in width and stayed on the ground for several miles... the damage was awful.

When I was in Alaska,  saw 10 foot drifts and one temperature was -65.

    lol, well excuse me... lol

  5. Ball lightning

  6. Water spouts in the west coast of Canada and lighting during snow in Toronto 3 years ago during a snowstorm.

  7. This one time p**p was falling out of the sky. It smelled gross and my neighbor started eating it. It did fertilize our lawn really well. The local meteorologist said that he had never seen such a strange phenom.

  8. Two things come to mind but they are only pictured in the memories of my mind...

1-Raining in a left angle, snowing in a right angle with bright sunshine! Germany in the early 70s

2-With all the criss-cross tape securing Waikiki Business windows as signs of the hurricane storm warnings, the girl with criss-cross tape that flashed us her b*****s!

  9. We were transiting through the Indian Ocean one night, and a typhoon had just passed to the north of my ship. There were still scattered thunderstorms on our ship's route and I was the observer on duty.

I began to notice a lot of activity due west, which was strange because once again the storm had passed to the north of us. Then as I turn around the entire superstructure of my ship was glowing green.

Even as a young Aerographer's Mate, I knew I was in trouble. I was in the middle of a concentration of static electricity called St. Elmo's Fire. I immediately ran to the door, through the Passage Way to my workspace where I told my story to my superiors.

After they began to laugh at me, only a minute or so after my experience up top, the largest bolt of lightning I have ever encountered struck the superstructure of the ship damaging the radar and GPS reciever.

    Ah Fun Times.

  10. I think I experienced a dust devil. I had a similar experience as one of the previous answers stated. Here is a link to wikipedia about tornadoes, dust devils, etc.

  11. raining men
