  1. It is impossible to give an accurate number, but most homeschooling groups estimate that about 2% of American children are homeschooled.  The reason such a number is only an estimate is that many parents "fly under the radar," and do not report to the state, mainly due to their feelings that how they raise their children is none of the state's business.

Homeschool students tend to score at or above the national average on college admission tests such as the SAT and ACT.  Almost every college in the United States accepts homeschool students, with the number growing each year.  All of the top universities in the nation not only accept, but recruit, homeschool students.

It is important to note, however, that homeschool parents by and large encourage their children to follow the life path that works for them - be it through college, technical training, or straight out into the workforce.  Therefore, the fact that homeschool students enter colleges at or above the rate that schooled students do, is of little value.

The goal of any education is to prepare the student to live a productive and happy life - whether that includes a college education or some other form of post high school living.

  2. look up this website.

  3. I have heard about 2% also. I wanted to mention that I live in Michigan and in this state we do not need to report to anyone we are homeschooling. So I know the homeschooling numbers are higher in this state, but there is no actual number. Also I believe there are about 5 other states with the same policy.

  4. It's typically been estimated that about 2% of students are homeschooled in the US. Firm figures are not available due to the different laws.

According to this http://www.hslda.org/research/ray2003/Be... 74% of homeschooled students take at least some college, compared to 46% of the general US population.

  5. According to the US census website, there are about 53.2 million school-aged children in the US.  According to the National Home Education Research Institute, there were between 1.9 and 2.4 million homeschooled children in the US during the 2005-2006 year.  So that comes out to about 4 percent of American children being homeschooled.

There are a few estimates saying that about 50 percent of homeschooled students go on to college, but those reports are 10 to 15 years old and also state that the number was on the rise, so it's probably a higher percentage by now.
