Since the late 1960s, Arab countries have referred to it as the "Arabian Gulf." The Iranians and most of the rest of the world (including official communications of the United Nations) refer to it by its classical name, the "Persian Gulf."

The official name is the Persian Gulf.  The surrounding Arabian countries lobbied to have the name of the gulf changed to the Arabian Gulf in the early 70's but the international community did not go along with it.
