  1. being in front of the player with the ball in a ruck, or scrum. or being ahead of the person who kicks the ball and tocuhing before they pass you

    EDIT!

I meant that being in front of the last players foot in a ruck or scrum.... the rest is right

  2. Offside in rugby.

It is called when you are not behind last feet and you tackle the man, charge the ball, etc.

    It leads to penalty.

    Hope that helped.

  3. Probably the hardest rule to explain since there are multiple "offside" zones.

Scrums:  Defensively, you are not allowed in front of the hindmost foot of any player on your team that is involved with in the scrum (backs only obviously) before the ball is out EXCLUDING the scrum half/half back who is allowed up to the line of the ball as long as he stays within about 1-2 metres of the actual scrum.  Forwards can be offside if they unbind from the scrum before the ball is out.

Rucks/Mauls:  You can't be in front of the hindmost foot of any player on your team in the ruck/maul unless you are in the ruck/maul then you are not allowed in front of the ball without being in possession of the ball.

Lineouts:  You are offside if you are not back 10 metres from the line where the ball is thrown... unless you are actually in the lineout, which includes any player playing scrum half/half back.

General Play:  Outside of the above area's, the only other way to be offside is to be in front of a kicker when they kick the ball BUT you are not actually offside unless you advance towards the ball or get involved with the play before the kicker, or another team mate who was onside, passes you, which puts you onside.

Sounds really complex but the simplest way to remember is that there are two offside lines, one where the ball is and one where the hindmost foot is.  Follow that and you'll be fine 99% of the time as long as you remember the kicking one!

Oh yeah, the biggest offside though is to hit on your team mates girlfriend.... that's SUPER offside.
