  1. When I caddied ( 70 years ago) we had to know the names of all the clubs, the average yardage of carry and every nuance of the game, where to stand, how to tend the flag, how to carry doubles, how to address the players( always Mr. or Mrs.). You always assisted to find every ball of the foursome. The club names were Driver,Brassie, Spoon, Cleek or Baffy while the irons were Driving Iron, Mid Iron, Mid Mashie, Mashie Iron, Mashie, Spade Mashie, Mashie Niblick, Niblick, Sand Iron and Putter. There was also a chipping iron with a loft of about our 4 iron which was used strictly for around the collars of the greens and the fairway directly in front of the green.
