  1. Perhaps Cairo, Egypt

  2. Jericho is by far the oldest continuously-inhabited city. The oldest outright was Catal Huyuk, which is now in Turkey, but no longer exists.

  3. Aleppo, Syria

This is the second capital of Syria 350 km north of Damascus, and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in history. Abraham (pbuh) is said to have camped on the acropolis which, long before his time, served as the foundation of a fortress where the Aleppo citadel is standing now. He milked his grey cow there, hence Aleppo's name "Halab Al-Shahba".

Ever since the 3rd millennium BC, Aleppo has been a flourishing city, with a unique strategic position. This position gave the city a distinctive role from the days of the Akkadian and Amorite kingdoms until modern times.

  4. I think Jerusalem rates up there..  If you visit see the Wailing Wall and the Holy Sepulchre.  Also Visit King Georges Street in the West city, it's great..

  5. Jericho in Palestinian territories inhabited in 9000 BC--Evidence indicates that the city was abandoned and later expanded and rebuilt several times.

The Jericho of the Old Testament period before the Hellenistic is called Tell es-Sultan and is located in the Jordan valley approximately 16 km (10 miles) northwest of the northern bank of the Dead Sea and 825 ft below sea level.

Jericho is one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Palestine.

  6. Either Damascus or Aleppo in Syria. Both have been occupied continuously for over 8,000 years. Jerusalem around 4,800 years.

Jericho is older, but there may have been gaps in occupation.

  7. the oldest still inhabited city in the world is Damascus, which is the capital of Syria. Damascus was formed about 4500 years ago, and it has remained the capital city since it was formed.

  8. Jericho is one excellent candidate, as are Damascus and Aleppo. Other candidates are Irbil in Iraq and Varanasi in India.

  9. Byblos in present-day Lebanon may date back as far as 5000 BCE and is considered by many to be the oldest continuously populated city. Damascus in Syria has existed at least since 3000 BCE. Varansi in India also dates back further than 3000 BCE. For a real taste of Byblos, stroll through the streets and byways. This part of town is a collection of old walls (some medieval) overlapping properties and intriguing

half-ruins.  Don't hesitate to explore. Should you happen to intrude on someone's property the hospitable townspeople will be pleased to show you around.

The area of excavations is surrounded by a wall with the entrance at the Crusader castle. To get a good view of this large, somewhat complex site, either climb to

the top of castle or walk around the periphery from outside the wall to identify

    the major monuments.

After visiting the archeological site, a quick and entertaining introduction to Lebanon's past can be found at the Wax Museum near the castle. The wax figures illustrate scenes from the history and rural life of the country.
