  1. The oldest board game still played is Backgammon, which can be traced back to the "Royal Game of Ur" 4800 years ago.

A GO board pre-dating 200 BC was found in 1954 in Wangdu County. This board is now in Beijing Historical Museum. (Source: John Fairbairn's Go in Ancient China

Chess can be traced back to India about 300AD

  2. Knucklebones, from the dawn of history.

    Still played today.

Chess -- sixth century C.E. India.

Senet -- not played any more.

    Ouija -- 20 century C.E. Amerika.

    Monopoly -- 1935. C.E.

    Backgammon -- (roughly ) 3000 BCE.

  3. it could be chess, i did a research paper on it n it was invented a long time ago idr when tho

  4. Either chess or monopoly

  5. Either Go or Mancala

  6. Senet is the oldest board game known to have existed, having been pictured in a fresco found in Merknera's tomb (3300-2700 BC).

The Senet gameboard is a grid of thirty squares, arranged in three rows of ten. A senet game has two sets of pawns (at least five of each and, in some sets, more). Senet was apparently a race game for two players, with moves determined by tosses of throwstick or, sometimes, knucklebone.

The actual rules of the game are a topic of some debate, although historians have made educated guesses. Timothy Kendall and R.C. Bell are two senet historians who have proposed (different) sets of rules to play the game. These rules have been adopted by different companies which make Senet sets for sale today.

  7. I'd probably say Chinese Checkers. That game is ancient.

  8. It's a little difficult to say as games go back to prehistory and the sites I found are also often vague about dates and sources. Also, fans are quick to claim the title of oldest (apparently without much research). Chess seems to be out. It has its origins in the Middle East around 600 AD, but some others had theorized that it had its origins in Xiangqi ("Chinese Chess") which would put its origins back to the "2nd century BC. It isbelieved to date the game to 548 BCE, though there is some evidence it was played as early as 2,000 BCE.

But these seem to be trumped by backgammon and checkers. A backgammon set that dating to 3,000 BC has recently been unearthed. There is claimed to be a clear inscription on a wall in Thebes dating to 4,000 BC depicting a game of checkers being played.

  9. Hungry Hungry Mastadons

  10. Checkers i belive 200 B.C. 133 years after Alexander The Greats death....

  11. My guess is chess. Hey, that rhymes!

  12. Im guessing chess

  13. ouija board

  14. maybe checkers or chinese checker?

Chess seems a little too advanced for an old board game, I know it's old but there has to be something that is older?

  15. maybe chess. it think mancala is pretty old also

  16. chess

  17. checkers?

  18. I think it is mancala.  Mancala is an ancient game that has been found in different versions in cultures all over the world.  Before there were "boards" it was played with stones or seeds in holes in the ground.  It has been around for a very long time, and is still a captivating game, deceptively simple, yet amazingly complex.

  19. Both "Go" and "Backgammon" pre-date "Chess".
