  1. i just would like to agree with GilaJenMo and say that the Arab is NOT that oldest true breed. the Caspian Pony outdates the Arab by 2 to 3 THOUSAND years and is a perfect "prototype" of the arab. same dished face, short foxy ears, one less pair of ribs, large liquid eye, short strong back. if you think im making this up, look it up!! i dont answer questions unless i know what i'm talking about!

  2. This breeder of Arabians just has to go with the Arabian as the answer. The Mongolian Wild Horse is a different species, the Barb is part Arab, the Icelandic hasn't been around as long as either the Barb or Arab. The MWH has been around a very long time, but it really is a separate animal, like a Zebra.

  3. The Mongolian Wild Horse but, the Arabian and Appaloosa people have a lively discussion going about which of them is the oldest.  Equine paleontology anyone?

  4. Howrse again?  This question is popping up a lot...

Przewalski's horse is a species, not a breed.  They are a separate entity from domestic horses, just like a zebra.

Arabs are the oldest "true" breed ("true" in that their lineage has been recorded.)

Barbs have Arab blood in them and so of course came later.

Icelandics were domesticated several hundred years after Arabs were.

But Howrse (from the little of it I've seen posted here on YA) seems to enjoy providing its participants with not-quite-accurante or otherwise convoluted information, so the "right Howrse answer" is probably Mongolian Wild Horse...even though that's wrong...

  5. Do your own homework instead of being lazy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. The Arabian... it has helped create almost all other horse breeds

  7. Przewalski's Horse also known as the Mongolian Wild Horse, or Takhi, is the closest living relative of the Domestic Horse and is in fact the same species.

Arabians are one of the oldest, if not the oldest breeds in the world.

  8. Mongolian Wild Horse. There was a special on TV a month or so ago. They still have a herd that they are trying to keep the breed going

  9. Arabians are descended from the Caspian horse discovered in Iran about 40 years ago.  The Caspian skeletons uncovered tested to be about 6,000 years old.

  10. again. . . the arab. this same question was asked last week.

at least  i get an extra 2 pts.

  11. Arabians are the oldest ture or pure breed or that I would believe that to be true

  12. What a great question!  Have you looked that up on-line?

I am going to take a stab and say the Barb or the Icelandic.

I know the Spanish Barb is a foundation of the Arabian from the books I've read.

Maybe it's the Przewaski's (sp?) horse?  Those are pretty old.....hey, I have heard the name Tarpan, again I don't know if it's spelled right, but I know they're a very old breed as well.

Looking forward to the rest of the answers....
