  1. It is the belmont stakes and 2nd place is the Derby. But you get more people at the derby then at the other 2 races.

  2. Belmont Stakes-started in 1866, and Kentucky Derby-started in 1875! The Preakness was started in 1877! Hope I helped you in some way!!

  3. The Belmont is the oldest of the Triple Crown races. It was founded by General Augustus Belmont, in 1869, the same year that Purdue University in Indiana was founded. It was also the first of the Triple Crown races. The Kentucky Derby and Preakness were founded in 1875 and 1873 respectively. The Preakness trophy, which is called The Woodlawn Vase, was donated to the Pimilco track and the Maryland State Racing Association by the Whitney family, who were considered to have been the race's founders by most historians. This trophy is so valuable that the winner of the stakes race receives a copy of it, NOT the real thing.  Churchill Downs was built around 1875, the year that the Derby was first run, and the race is called a Derby after the races of similar type and distance that are run in England.  Please check your facts and get them straight before you answer this type of question.

  4. The Travers Stakes at Saratoga is two years older than the Belmont, actually.

  5. The Travers Stakes - 1864
