  1. Probably the Sumerians.

  2. It is hard to draw the line between civilization, which is seen as relatively complex, and more simple societies.  ÃƒÂ‡atal Höyük may have been the first city, but some argue it is only a simple village.  Feasibly a society could have early agriculture and pottery and still not be considered a civilization depending on your definition and classification.  In a more strict interpretation, the cities of Ur and Uruk of the Sumerian civilization were the oldest.

  3. Pre-historic...Perhaps the Black Sea region which was a fresh water lake until appx. 7,000 years ago. Also, Mesopotamia was inhabited by the pre-historic Ubaids, before the Bibical Flood of 7,000 BP...Both societies had agriculture!

But since "Civilization" really means "City", the first real cities re-emerged between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, after the flood subsided in Mesopotamia, circa 4500 BCE...(Sumer)

Followed by Nile River settlements, circa 4,000 BCE (Egypt)...

And finally, the Indus River valley civilization, Circa 3500 BCE (Hindu)...

  4. No one knows with any certainty, but the most likely candidate is  ÃƒÂƒÃ‚‡atalhöyük, in what is now modern day Turkey.

  5. The oldest civilization was called Sumer, the Sumerian Civilization, located in Lower Mesopotamia of the "Fertile Crescent" along the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. It began about B.C. 4,000.

  6. i don't know the oldest, but the sumerians are the oldest in recorded history. my reasoning is they used cunieform, this is the oldes know written language. hisrotry is written. and pre history is before written records. so in the written record i would say the sumerians in the fertile crecent. their writings date back to around 5000 yrs ago

  7. The oldest known civilization still in existence is the Aborigine society in Australia.

  8. Wow I'm anthro major and that's debatable ....i specialize in primatology so i don't know that off the top of my head how sad....hmmmm i'm gonna say Sumer (modern day Iraq)?

PS Funkme!!!!!! lol i love Funk music!!! if ur into funk and anthropology try a group called "Mandrill" they're my all time favorite!!!!!!

  9. someone wasn't paying attention in history class

  10. Chatel Hyack in Turkey was definitely the first city.

How we define civilisation defines how we answer the question.

  11. Sumerians are the oldest KNOWN civilization.

  12. This depends upon one's definition of Civilization.  Peternal is correct in that the Ubaids, due to building materials & location, & eventual Sumer, are considered the 1st Civilization.  However, civilizations building from wood in wetter climates are very difficult to detect.

  13. Sid Meiers??
