The bristle cone pine was believed to be the oldest living thing up to 1970. but other trees and shrubs have been discovered. Also some bacterial species have been discovered in state of suspended animation. Further details can be read from the reference given which is makes a  very interesting reading .

I believe that would be a primitive bacteria, one from about 3.? billions years ago.
