  1. The oldest bridge is Rooks Nest Road, the Lake Lock Railway ran under it, which is the first PUBLIC railway in the world. It ran from Lofthouse pit to Stanley Ferry, in West Yorkshire.

  2. The world's oldest surviving railway bridge is Causey Arch in County Durham. This was built in 1726, however the bridge was barely used for its intended purpose, as the colliery it served was destroyed by fire in 1739.

The oldest railway bridge in the world that is still in use today is Skerne Bridge in Darlington, built in 1825. This was built for the first passenger railway, the Stockton and Darlington railway. Passenger trains from Darlington to Bishop Auckland still cross this bridge today.

  3. Causey arch in Co. Durham was built way back when horses were used to pull coal wagons on tracks.

  4. the oldest purpose built train bridge and car bridge in the uk i think is the forth bridge but im no history major so dont really know and am just guessing really

  5. There is a bridge ,Skerne Bridge, on the Stockton to Darlington line which is still used today, this must surely be one of the oldest.

the Causey Arch is the Britains oldest rly bridge, but no longer used.

  6. Maidenhead Railway Bridge (aka Maidenhead Viaduct)

The bridge was designed by the Great Western's famous engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and it was completed in 1838.

  7. The viaduct leading from London Bridge towards Greenwich is one of the oldest/longest railway structures

  8. I would guess that it is one of the surviving bridges on what remains of the Merthyr - Abercynon line in Wales, where Rickard Trevithick operated the first steam locomotive in 1804.

  9. Is it Bowes bridge on the Tanfield line?

  10. As far as i can remember the oldest passenger railway bridge is just outside Canterbury in Kent. It would have been on the old line between Canterbury and Whitstable.
