  1. In the UK, only the titles King, Queen, Prince and Princess are used exclusively for royalty. Some dukes are royal Dukes, but the other dukes, as well as the other members of the peerage, are not considered royal.

There is no universal agreement about who is royal and who isn't. Those who are indisputably royal are those who have been given the title HRH (His or Her Royal Highness).

Currently those holding the HRH title are:

    The Duke of Edinburgh

    The Prince of Wales

    His sons

    Prince Andrew

    His children

    Prince Edward

    His daughter

    Princess Anne

    The Duke of Gloucester

    The Duke of Kent

    Princess Alexandra

It's significant that the title HRH wasn't awarded to either the Duchess of Windsor (who married Edward VIII after he abdicated) or Princess Diana (after her divorce).

As for order, there are two ways to measure it: precedence (which determines who goes into dinner first, and so forth) and order of succession to the throne. These are not necessarily the same.

    The order of precedence is:

    The Queen

    The Duke of Edinburgh

    Prince Charles

    Prince Andrew

    Prince Edward

    The Queen's grandsons

The Queen's cousins (Duke of Gloucester, Duke of Kent, and Princess Alexandra)

    The order of succession is:

    The Prince of Wales

    Prince Harry

    Prince William

    Prince Andrew

    Prince Andrew's children

    Prince Edward

    Prince Edward's daughter

    Princess Anne

    Princess Anne's children

    Viscount Linley (Princess Margaret's son)

    his children

Lady Sarah Chatto (Princess Margaret's daughter)

    her children

and only then do we get the Duke of Gloucester, etc.

  2. The ranks of the peerage are Duke, Marquess, Earl, Viscount, and Baron.

  3. Actually an emperor/empress ranks over a king/queen. But it is usually the male over female in rankings also. I believe a  duke/duchess then count/countess. When Queen Victoria's granddaughter married Czar Nicholas of Russia, Victoria decided to become Empress over the British Empire, making sure that she outranked her granddaughter who was Czarina. Hope this helps...

  4. If you're talking about the British royalty then it's fairly simple.

    First (and obviously) you have

            KINGS AND QUEENS

    Then

            PRINCE AND PRINCESSES

    Lastly

            NOBILITY which is made up of the;

                 -Duke and Duchess

                 -Earl and Countess

                 -Viscount and Viscountess

                 -Marquess and Marchioness

                 -Baron and Baroness

-Lords and Ladies (usually children of nobility)
