My mother's maternal grandfather's family, beginning with Patrick and Bridget Dougherty and their children and grandchildren, came to Ontario, Canada, from Donegal in Northern Ireland in 1821.  I know of at least three ways to spell this last name: Doherty, Daugherty, and Dougherty.
