  1. The resistance offered by the irregularities on the surface of the two surfaces involved causes friction.

    Static friction is an effect of sliding friction plus tentative covalent bonding at the molecular level.

    Sliding friction is a combination of even more transient bonding of the surface molecules, plus the energy needed to accomplish the elastic deformation and the destructive grinding of the molecular "mountian ranges" that each unsmooth surface encounters as it moves. Of course, all surfaces are mountian ranges when you get to a small enough scale.


  3. This is what I think . I think friction when you get dow to it is a result of gravity. Ex no gravity in space things don't stop (comets planets moons ect ) they just keep going. Things stop because of friction newtons first law. Gravity creates resistance
