  1. it is a fictional metal from J.R.R. Tolkiens fictional writings.

it may have had its origins in a silk coat worn by the hero in the old Hervarar Saga. as Tokien did borrow some elements from that  to use in his creation of 'middle earth' the setting of his lord of the rings & hobbit books

  2. It is a special metal used by the elves in Lord of the rings fantasy.Frodo was given a mithril shirt to protect him in battle. It is fictional.

  3. Mythril is a metal said to be more brilliant than silver and stronger than iron.

It seems to first appear with Tolkien's mentioning of it in "The Fellowship of the Ring," though I feel like it has roots elsewhere.

But then again, Tolkien created an entire world from his mind. It is very possible it was his creation.

  4. Yes mithril is fictional.

As a metal its suppose to combine the best aspects of silver and steel.

It would be very interesting to know if Tolkien had heard of titanium or platinum?

    Mith- is Sindarin for grey.
