    Styer

    Last name origins & meanings:

English: occupational name for someone who worked at a pigsty, a swineherd, from an agent derivative of Middle English stye ‘sty’ (Old English stig(u)).

English: topographic from Middle English stye ‘path’ (Old English stīg) + the suffix -er denoting an inhabitant.

    Kirk

Last name origin and meaning :

    Old Norse: From the church

Scottish and northern English, and Danish: from northern Middle English, Danish kirk ‘church’ (Old Norse kirkja), a topographic name for someone who lived near a church.

Your term "black Irish" is a misnomer, in spite of what many people believe or have been told, the term is not well known in Ireland, "Black Irish" is a mostly U.S.A. phrase, based on a claim that after the defeat of the Spanish Armada off the west coast of Ireland in 1588, Spanish sailors and soldiers integrated with native Irish women and from this union a special breed of "Black Irish" was spawned. There is no historical fact available to support this, the truth is that the Armada shipwreck survivors were slaughtered as enemy combatants or later returned to Spain under an

    English/Spanish treaty agreement.

Genetics does not permit an insignificantly small number of Spaniards to breed a new "Black Irish" progeny, without the Southern European dark skin or swarthiness. In spite of the many claims of such Spanish looking people commonly inhabiting the West Coast of Ireland, there are very few Latino people claiming Irish ancestry anywhere in Ireland.
