What is the overall concept of modern world history?

Hello, I am going into modern world next year in high school for honors. Last year I had no problem with government or US history. Is modern world and US history a lot a like and what should I expect in modern world history? I wanted to get an edge before I take the class. ;)

    4. Learn from the past; example: beware of Greeks baring gifts in     times of economic and social decline.
