  1. Compounds themselves do not have oxidation numbers ... the elements within them do.

    In ammonia the N is -III and the hydrogen is +I


  2. The NH3 Molecule is Neutral.

    As mentioned by Dr A, the H is +1 and N is -3, Therfore NH3 must be a neutral molecule.
