  1. Ozone is a form of oxygen high in the Earth's atmosphere.  It helps block ultraviolet radiation from the Sun.

Certain chemicals can break down ozone, causing more UV radiation to reach the surface.  These chemicals are mostly ones that use chlorine and fluorine, and are called CFCs.  They have been used as propellants for spray cans, and as the coolant in air conditioners and refrigerators.

Some of the ozone has been destroyed.  Most companies are now switching to new types of chemicals to replace CFCs, to avoid causing further damage.

  2. People believe EVERYTHING else scientists have to say, from evolution to "g*y genes," but when it comes to saving the enviornment, they are full of cr*p. How ironic.

  5. Ozone is oxygen with an extra oxygen atom on the molecule.  It is formed from high altitude UV Light from the sun, I beleive.  There is a theory that chlorine ions high in the atmosphere from some types of freon catalyze the conversion of ozone back into oxygen.  They know it likely occurs but have a hard time quantifying it.  There are gaps of lower concentration that form near the south pole but there is not a consensus if it is natural or from man made pollution.
