  1. When placed in water, we have this equation

    Mg(OH)2(s) <--> Mg^2+(aq) + 2OH-(aq)

    Ksp = [Mg^2+][OH-]² = 1.20E-11

    1.20E-11 = (x)(2x)² = 4x&#179

    x = 1.44224957E-4

    Since [OH-] = 2x, then [OH-] = 2.884499141E-11M

    pOH = -log(OH-) = 3.540

    pH + pOH = 14, so pH = 10.460

    [Answer: see above]
