  1. The police will tow your car if the plates don't match.

You'd be better off putting paper plates on it.

  2. all you need to do is have the bill of sale and the title, depending upon where you are located, most states allow 3-30 days to actually license the car in your name. you may want to contact the state patrol and discuss it with them. But DO NOT drive it with another cars plates then they can ticket you for numerous different offenses including inproper registration, expired registration, and others. if i were you i would contact the state patrol and make sure but i think you can drive it without any plates as long as you have the bill of sale signed by the previous owner and the title.

  3. Well, of course the first problem is that it's illegal. If you get pulled by a cop and have another car's license tag on your car, it will probably be impounded. And you'll definitely get a ticket for it as well. Chances are you won't get pulled, but who knows...

  4. get a temporrary  no worries.. but if you got another tag for another car thats way bad worse than not having one if they catch ya.. go to the dmv get a temp tag

  5. If a cop decides to run your plates and they come up as belonging to a different vehicle, he will assume you are driving a stolen vehicle and will perform a felony arrest. You aren't going to get to tell your side of the story until after you've been spread-eagled on the asphalt with a cop's knee in the back of your neck and have the cuffs on. Oh, and it's illegal to do it, anyway.

  6. I think it depends on the state, but essentially, I think it is a crime of some sort. If you must do this, just make sure you are TOTALLY legal otherwise, and hope you arent stopped. Otherwise....???

You could always get a temporrary plate, from your state or the other. Ive never done that, but thats how it should be done. Be ready to pay a hefty fine if you get caught!!

  7. Its okay. You see cars all the time taveling around from state to state. If the plates belong to the car then it is legal. Just register in your state of residence. If you get pulled over show them the sales slip and your insurance. No biggie.

  8. If you just bought it, even from an individual. Nothing for 30 days. You have 30 days to switch it and register the car in your name. Past 30 days or if you fail to do that, you will be ticketed when stopped. The officer has the right but usually doesn't unless you've been ticketed before for this. To towe the vehicle and impound it. You'll receive a ticket the first time, possible towe. 2nd time, its gone. If you've owned the vehicle for a long time but you switched plates to keep the tag in date, you will be arrested.

  9. Your supposed to go with the original owner to get those changed right after purchasing it.
