  1. Not much.

They may also try to take it away but if they do, buy another one.

  2. Since they're not illegal here, there's not much in the way of a penalty.

    EDIT:

Well, aren't I the knucklehead?  I just went and checked and the stupid things ARE illegal.  Whaddya know?

    $108 fine.

    Sonofagun.

  3. The use of radar jammers is ILLEGAL UNDER US FEDERAL LAW (see sources). You can't legally sell or buy a radar jammer that actually jams radar. You can find a few devices that claim to 'jam' radar, but in independent tests by Speed Measurement Labs and 1stRadarDetectors.com, NO so-called radar jammers jammed any police radar.

Radar jammers were legal years ago, but were made illegal by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which has jurisdiction over the radio frequencies within the USA. The only effective way to jam a police radar gun is to do it with radio waves. Using any device in this manner is illegal under federal law. If you buy a so-called radar antenna or radar blocker, you won't jam any radar but you may get a good laugh out of the police officer who is writing you a ticket.

On the other hand, radar detectors are completely legal in California. But, in California it is illegal to mount anything to your windshield. So if you decide to use a radar detector in California, you should mount it in a radar detector visor holder, to hold the device as high as possible inside your vehicle while also keeping it out of sight of passersby.

Police are more frequently using LIDAR to measure speed. LIDAR is essentially laser, a narrow beam of light that only needs to hit your vehicle for .2 seconds (2 tenths of a second) to measure your speed. Most radar detectors claim that they alert to police laser, but with .2 seconds between the alert and when your speed is measured, you might as well pull over if you are going too fast when your radar detector alerts to laser.

If you are concerned about laser, your only alternative is a laser jammer (also legal to use in most states, but NOT LEGAL in California). A laser jammer detects the incoming laser beam and jams the speed reading on the gun, allowing you time to check your speed and turn off the jammer.

  4. Not much.

    Except in LA County.

Then you get the death penalty. (LOL)

d**n sure cuts down the speeders.
