What is the pension of an average airline pilot?

Depends on how much you want to put into your 401k, and when you start. I put 20% of each pay check in, and I'm 24. Theoretically, I should have over a million dollars in my retirement account at retirement age, providing I don't have to dip into it or do something stupid and get fired

A 401k is not a pension, but it is certainly a good idea.

Well, if your airline went chapter 11, your defined benefit plan went right out the window. US air, United, and Northwest pilots all lost theirs. The government (ie: you, me, and the rest of the US taxpayers) only guarenteed a small portion of what the airline agreed to, and later reneged upon when they went Chap 11.
