I know no regular church goers in England, but many that proclaim that they are religious.

So in my (vast) experience I would say that about 70+% of the people that I personally know profess no belief in divinities.

I think it's quite high. Well, I wouldn't say a high percentage of atheism as such, but there is certainly a very high percentage of people over here who just don't partake in any particular religious activity. Not necessarily because they have come to a conclusion about whether 'God' exists or not, but because they simply don't really care. They haven't really explored their ideas and came to a logical conclusion about them. I consider myself to be an atheist because I just don't believe in any god, and I don't know anybody who goes to church, of any age. I think some of the people I know think there might be something out there, but they don't really admit it because deep down they realise it's kind of illogical. I would guess that the percentage of atheists, or just non religious people, would be as high as 70%, although I am only speaking for the area in which I live (Milton Keynes)

Well if you define atheist as not believing in the 'true' god...100%

But its probably not that high ~40%, lots of different religious beliefs here.

According to the last census in 2001, the answer is 16%. Admittedly that is not exactly the impression you get from everyday experience. Most people in the UK retain a residual religious belief, even though they are not religiously active.

"Yes" is the answer they would give to the question "do you believe in God?", if somebody held a gun to their head and told them that they have got to give an answer, yes or no, or else the trigger would be pulled.
