It seems to be one of those things that is pretty easy to call off. I have been engaged for AGES, more than 2 and a half years now, and have no plans of getting married yet simply because I am a cheapskate and don't want to spend the money and his family is enormous!

  1. its something you do once so spending money shouldnt be a big deal im not married and never want to be but thats my choice and i wish every married couple the very best im a catholic and ive been with my partner for 12 years were as married as were going to get and he comes from a strick lebanese family i wouldnt spend 25000 eithr if you can have a great time with family and friends for less i just went to a wedding and it cost about 50000

  2. what is the point of even getting married if you're living together as a married couple with a child?!

  3. your brother must've had to shell out a fortune for his wedding (either that or her family must've been rich lol)-I can't believe his wife was that rude to you.

with 2 kids and a million other things to pay for, I can see why you don't want to pay that much for your wedding.

Why not find a reception hall, small church, or restaurant in your area that you can hold a small ceremony and reception at (max 100 guests or smaller)? regardless of how huge his family is-if they love him (and you) they'll understand your need to scale back the wedding and not invite all 20 thousand family members.

why not go somewhere beach front like california (or similar) with just your parents, grandparents, and a few close friends and have your ceremony. then once you get back, you can have a reception (even in someone's backyard if you have the room) for the rest of the family.

I have 3 girls (ages 9,6,and 7) and my bf and I have been talking about getting married lately. Neither one of us can justify spending that kind of money on a wedding either. We found a small place 2 hours north of us that will do both the ceremony and reception, a catering company that will do all of our setting up, decorations, and food. I also found everyone's dresses (including mine) from the same bridal shop. it's all going to cost us about 8 thousand dollars which I can justify spending. this includes our photographer and DJ as well.

don't worry about what his family thinks-the ones who are married had their day and did it the way they wanted. you have that right too!!
